Treatment For Gum And Periodontal Disease

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection in the gum tissue and bone that hold your teeth in place. It is generally painless and is typically caused by the build up of plaque and other debris on teeth. If this debris is not removed by brushing and regular dental cleanings, it causes inflammation in the gums which can result in loss of the supporting bone structure that holds the teeth. Ultimately, if left untreated, this can result in the loss of teeth. This is why regular brushing, flossing and having your teeth cleaned and examined by a dental professional every six months is essential. The damage to the bone caused by gum disease can not be reversed, but early detection can help control the infection and prevent further damage.

Signs of gum disease include:

  • Red or Swollen Gums
  • Painful Chewing
  • Constant Bad Breath
  • Sensitivity
  • Receding Gum Lines
